My passion is helping my fellow educators reignite their own love of teaching and learning. My goal is that participants leave my workshops feeling rejuvenated, armed with fresh ideas to put into action. I believe in creating learning environments in which learners of all ages feel comfortable to take risks, be honest, ask questions, and challenge their previous assumptions. |

After graduating from the University of Kansas, Katie taught in Germantown, TN and Irving, TX before returning to her roots in Kansas. She has taught in nearly every grade K-6 and served as an instructional coach. In 2014, Katie was the Region 1 Elementary Kansas Teacher of the Year. Katie has earned her master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction with a K-12 Reading Specialist endorsement and a Building Administration endorsement from Fort Hays State University. Currently, Katie is an educational specialist at ESSDACK.

Katie says that being an educator is as much a part of her identity as being a wife, mother, and daughter. As an education consultant, it is her goal to share her passion with other teachers to help inspire impassioned teaching and learning in classrooms everywhere.A pre-law major, Katie describes her educational career path as the most exciting journey she never expected to take. Katie decided to apply to the KU School of Education after working for a year as a special education paraeducator. Upon graduating from the University of Kansas, Katie taught in Germantown, TN and Irving, TX before returning to her roots in Kansas. She has taught in nearly every grade K-6 and served as an instructional coach. In 2014, Katie was the Region 1 Elementary Kansas Teacher of the Year. She has earned her master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction with a K-12 Reading Specialist endorsement and a Building Administration endorsement from Fort Hays State University.
During her travels as a member of the Kansas Teacher of the Year team, Katie’s passion for helping other teachers was sparked. The following year, Katie left the classroom to serve as an instructional coach before obtaining her dream job as an education consultant at ESSDACK. An elementary generalist at heart, Katie specializes in the following areas: K-8 Science, digital citizenship, PBL, STEM, student/teacher creativity and coaching/mentoring.
Katie believes that classroom instruction should include relevant, hands-on learning opportunities in which students are authentically engaged in problem/project based learning. As a result, Katie is committed to providing teachers with professional learning to implement STEAM, PBL, and Maker instruction. She created BOOMLET Learning Science, a K-5 curriculum that supports the Next Generation Science Standards using a STEAM/PBL approach. Katie is also the author of Digital Citizenship Toolkit and Your Digital Footprint, curriculum resources for 3rd-12th grade classrooms that include authentic experiences for students to establish a positive digital footprint.
